N2growth's study notes outside executive recruiters produce higher quality and greater volumes of qualified candidates when contrasted to other recruiting options

Portland, OR.--(Business Wire)--August 15, 2007---The talent management practice at N2growth, a leading strategic growth consultancy, has produced a study that quantifies the business impact of the most common forms of sourcing talent. The study includes data highlighting the current popularity and effectiveness of different recruiting strategies and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of each method when implemented in today's competitive marketplace.

The recruiting methods analyzed in the study were: employee referrals, online job boards, corporate websites, in-house recruiters, outside recruiting firms, print ads, internships, job fairs/events, and outplacement services. The popularity and effectiveness of each recruiting strategy were analyzed by size of organization.

The study was compiled based upon analyzing respondent data from more than 100 companies ranging in size from early stage companies to Fortune 1000 organizations. In terms of popularity, the study found that employee referrals are the most frequently used recruiting method across organizations of all sizes, followed by online job boards and corporate websites. The use of outside recruiters fell far down the list in terms of popularity, with many companies choosing not to use outside recruiting companies at all. However the study clearly indicated that the popularity of various recruiting methods is not a good measure for their effectiveness or their results.

When respondents were asked to indicate which method was most effective and which method generated the greatest number of new hires, the results were quite telling and pointed to the positive results produced by outside recruiting firms.  Even though outside recruiters are ranked sixth in terms of popularity of recruiting methods, recruiting firms rank first in terms of overall effectiveness and in terms of the greatest number of new hires produced. This combination of effectiveness and volume puts outside recruiting firms in the top spot in the study. Interestingly, inside recruiters did not score as well as outside recruiting firms in terms of effectiveness or volume of new hires.
