Born in Ohio and raised in North Carolina, Georgia and Michigan, Mark was brought up in a loving family with beliefs and values heavily influenced by the American Dream, the US Marine Corps, Meritocracy, Team Sports, Music and Christianity. He attended 3 different elementary schools, two different middle schools and two different high schools. During those years Mark learned to adapt to new environments, get along with all kinds of people, play football, basketball and learn the value and power of teamwork. Growing up he was privileged to get exposure to many senior executives and leaders through his CEO father who always found ways to involve him in business related events. As a result, Mark became very comfortable at an early age around senior executives and interested in the intersection between people, organizations and leadership.
While working in Moscow helping the Soviet Government pilot Perestroika in 1990, I witnessed history… the first ever pro-democracy demonstration in Red Square.
My favorite is a tie between “culture eats strategy for lunch” or “as long as you stay on your feet there is a chance for victory”
WHAT YOU DIDN’T KNOW
I am the proud father of four children and love to spend time with my family and close friends. I am an usher in my church and active within North Side Ministries and the communities that we serve. I like to stay in good physical condition working out 3-5 days a week and I love participating in outdoor sports such as deep sea and fly fishing, snow skiing and golf. I also have a passion for travel and experiencing new cultures and adventures.
WHAT IS THE PRACTICE?
At N2Growth our business is to help senior leaders transform their organizations to realize and sustain breakthrough performance. We do this by working directly with boards, senior leaders and their extended management teams to develop mission, vision, values and strategy that articulate the future for their organizations and the path to get there. We help our clients with complex challenges and work with them to align people, processes and programs to execute their strategy. We help our clients to put in place the governance structure, leadership development and cultural architecture that sustain their efforts and provide coaching and advice to them over time as they implement.
WHO DO YOU WORK WITH?
I work primarily with CEO’s, their Board members and their management teams. I bring them a unique and valuable perspective having done this work for over 30 years in many different types of organizations around the world.
WHAT IS MY MOTIVATION?
Over the last 30 years I have been about serving others and working to make a positive difference in the world. I believe I can best do this by working with senior leaders to help them and the organizations they lead be more successful. This is my calling and my motivation for what I do.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE LEADERS ABOUT MANAGING STRATEGY?
Be sure not to build “initiative du jour” or “this too shall pass” attitudes into the DNA of your culture. Whenever leaders fail to deliver on the promises made to their organizations they lose twice. They not only fail to achieve the strategic goals they set, they also teach people not to listen to them the next time.
