Ian Paterson

Ian Paterson serves as Director of Advisory Services for N2Growth Executive Search in Capetown, South Africa. He is strategically located in Cape Town, South Africa, and serves the EMEAA region. He specializes in strategy facilitation and crafting, organization design, and strategic change enablement, as well as in the design and implementation of employee alignment and strategy execution processes. Ian is highly skilled in organizational development (OD) interventions that build organizational capability for high-performance and high-performing teams. He has led a number of recent strategic interventions forecasting the impact of future technology on organizational ecosystems and structures and designing transition plans to ensure that organizations capitalize on the potential that the future world of work has to offer.

Ian has worked with prominent organizations such as the South African Revenue Service, Distell, Munich Re, National Treasury, Sun International, Nedbank, the Auditor General of South Africa, CapeNature, the National Arts Council, Tsogo Sun, City Lodge Group, Metrofile, TCI Group, CCI, Technology Innovation Agency, National Consumer Tribunal, the Western Cape Government and numerous others.

As an accomplished strategic change specialist, Ian has facilitated small and large multi-stakeholder groups and is highly experienced in interactive, large scale change methodology, including Real-Time Strategic Change, preferred futuring, open space, appreciative inquiry, the conference model, polarity thinking, and future search - all principle-based approaches to creating fast and lasting change throughout organizations.

Ian is a member of the adjunct faculty at the University of the Free State Business School where he lectures in strategy, strategic change, strategy execution, and organizational design. He has a bachelor’s degree in social science from the University of Cape Town, a postgraduate diploma in management (Human Resources) from the University of the Witwatersrand Business School, and a certificate in organization design from the University of Southern California.
