This video applies to us all – especially those in leadership. I highly recommend watching this video as a recommencement of sorts – to being grounded in humility, reality, authenticity, and transparency. The reason people want to be led by you is not because your special, but because you understand you’re not. Leadership isn’t about you; it’s about what you can do for those whom you lead. Thoughts?

Words that we all very much need to hear – either as a wake-up call or as validation in difficult times.

    Hi Mike,

I love the speaker’s point about how we’ve become more focused on accolades than achievements.  That there is a point that merits a moment to ponder to appreciate its significance and relevance in today’s world.  Thanks for the great share, Mike.

An interesting use of the paradox that we are all special and not special at the same time.  Splitting the perspective of who sees what as either special or not special resolves the paradox.  Both what is worthless and priceless have not stable relationship with value.  When I am not special, I have a strong chance to becoming worthwhile.  When I am stuck on my own worth, I have a strong chance to become worthless.   An odd but good hearted well wish, “attain an an extraordinary life, because you are not special.”

Economically, if nearly everyone were special, those that are not special would be remarkably rare — rarity can them increase their value in the eyes of those who are special.  Optimally, we can only stably afford to have about 36.79% of society as not special, the rest of us need to become special in some way or another or we will force those who are not special to be over valued.
