Our FAQ hub answers the questions we hear most about executive search and leadership advisory, from how we place and advise extraordinary executives to what candidates can expect throughout a search.
Executive search and leadership advisory FAQs
Executive search
Partnering with a boutique executive search firm gives you direct senior partner access and a wider candidate pool, since boutique firms typically carry fewer off-limits conflicts than larger firms. At N2Growth, we operate as a retained boutique firm with that same access, backed by a global presence across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Every search moves from first conversation to placement with the same partner, who stays involved in the work day-to-day throughout.
N2Growth’s executive search process begins by aligning with your organization’s priorities and timeline, then calibrating the precise leadership profile the role demands before any candidate is sourced. We deliver a first slate of thoroughly vetted candidates and continue presenting additional candidates until the search closes. Every candidate presented has already gone through multiple interviews with our team, backed by assessment and enrichment behind why we’re suggesting them. Once you select a finalist, we lead negotiations through to offer and remain engaged through the transition.
N2Growth can help you determine whether a role calls for external search or advancing someone already inside the organization, either before a search begins or as part of a full search process, drawing on experience across industries, functions, and ownership types to assess what the situation actually requires. We evaluate internal candidates against the same criteria and market benchmarking used for external searches, giving leadership an independent read on whether that candidate is ready now or whether the market could offer a stronger fit.
You don’t need the exact number of roles or seniority level defined upfront. N2Growth’s executive search experts run the entire process, from scoping to placement. Starting with your organization’s broader goals, our calibration process shares real candidate profiles instead of a traditional longlist to help you settle on the right seniority level and background before the formal search launches.
N2Growth sources passive candidates through market mapping across the wider industry for each executive search. A defined set of criteria built before outreach begins shapes the specific expertise, titles, and organizations our research team targets to reach the right leaders, most of whom aren’t visible through conventional channels. Because these candidates aren’t actively searching, earning genuine interest takes sustained, personal engagement, not a single conversation.
N2Growth typically introduces your first slate of candidates within 15 to 20 business days of the search’s start. We understand the appetite to go fast, and we’ve intentionally built our process to balance speed and candidate quality. Across hundreds of engagements, placing candidates in the context of the broader market and allowing thorough evaluation of multiple candidates yields more consistent results than introducing the first candidate as soon as possible. When circumstances call for it, our team is fully capable of compressing or expanding this timeline to match what the search actually requires.
N2Growth’s primary assessment for candidates is the Big Five personality assessment, administered independently by our coaching team to keep the process unbiased. The assessment examines traits like openness and conscientiousness to gauge leadership style and cultural fit, supporting a confident final hire. Each candidate also meets with an N2Growth executive coach to validate the assessment’s findings and account for personal and professional development that has broadened a leader’s capabilities. Depending on your organization’s needs, we can also assess candidates using the Five Lens and Reflector 360 assessments.
N2Growth protects confidential searches through a staged disclosure process. Candidates initially receive a high-level look at the opportunity, enough to gauge interest, with the client’s identity revealed only after signing a nondisclosure agreement. How much we disclose beforehand shifts based on the search’s sensitivity and the client’s own preferences.
N2Growth conducts comprehensive background checks on finalist candidates, which include criminal and civil record checks. We also conduct reference checks, drawing on our network to generate additional insight beyond what candidates provide. Once a finalist is selected, we share a summary of the findings with the client, and this diligence is standard practice across every retained search we run.
Between a final slate and an accepted offer, N2Growth coordinates the client’s remaining interviews and completes background and reference checks. We position the offer, advise on negotiation strategy, and surface any potential counteroffers that could influence a candidate’s readiness to accept. Compensation alignment is revisited at this stage to confirm both sides remain aligned before the offer goes out. Once the client extends the offer and it’s accepted, we continue with 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins to support a smooth transition into the role.
Yes, N2Growth conducts executive search for privately held and family-owned companies, including named engagements with Amway, Bissell, and Ferrero. We serve every ownership structure, whether family-owned, private equity-backed, publicly traded, or nonprofit, without limiting the industries or functions we serve. Family businesses bring distinct considerations such as succession timing and multi-generational leadership, and N2Growth’s executive search and succession planning practices are built and led by advisors with direct experience in these dynamics.
N2Growth builds each leadership profile around the portfolio company’s specific investment thesis, then assesses and structures the leadership team to match it. A growth thesis, a margin-expansion play, and a turnaround each demand a different kind of executive. Candidates are assessed for financial discipline, decision-making with incomplete information, and the ability to perform under active board and sponsor governance. We treat the leadership team as a system, filling each role, from CEO to CFO to CHRO, around one operating agenda.
Succession planning protects a company from being caught unprepared when a critical leadership role opens, whether through retirement, resignation, or an unplanned departure. It builds a stronger internal talent pipeline, reduces the risk tied to executive turnover, and helps boards meet their core responsibility for leadership oversight and continuity. At N2Growth, we combine data-driven assessments with executive search and market mapping, so organizations can develop leaders from within while staying informed on outside options.
N2Growth’s succession planning process moves from defining the strategic challenges and role requirements to building and evaluating a slate of potential successors, then supporting a smooth transition once a successor is selected. Internal candidates are assessed and developed against the role profile, while external candidates are identified through market mapping and executive search when the need extends beyond internal talent.
Leadership advisory
Leadership development delivers the most value when organizations invest in it continuously, not only in response to a problem. Clear triggers, such as a succession gap, growth outpacing current leadership skills, a leader struggling in a new role, or major change like a merger or restructuring, often prompt the initial investment, but sustained development keeps leaders ready before the next challenge arrives. N2Growth scales its approach to the need, from an immediate catalyst to sustained capacity, through cohort-based development and top team effectiveness.
N2Growth uses the Five Lens, Big Five, and Reflector 360 assessments in leadership development engagements. The Five Lens assessment maps behavior across personal mastery, emotional resilience, social drives, energy centers, and the Enneagram, producing an individual feedback report that anchors coaching plans. The Big Five measures openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and emotional stability to identify blind spots and growth areas. The Reflector 360 gathers structured input from peers, supervisors, and direct reports.
Program length depends on the organization’s goals and the urgency driving the investment. Longer engagements often produce more durable behavior change, since new habits take time to hold under pressure, but that has to be weighed against how quickly results are needed. N2Growth’s leadership development team sizes each program around that balance, rather than applying a standard timeline.
N2Growth measures ROI against specific behavioral and organizational metrics identified at the outset of each engagement. Our approach starts with research-backed assessments that pinpoint individual strengths and development areas, forming the foundation for coaching aimed at both personal growth and team cohesion. Those metrics are revisited as the engagement progresses to track real movement.
Executive coaching for a high-performing leader centers on their distinctive mix of traits and motivations behind how they operate, to sharpen strategic agility and decision-making even where performance already looks strong. This evidence-based approach uncovers blind spots and builds resilience that doesn’t show up in results yet, because strong performers rarely get pushed to examine them. The same lens supports succession readiness, as sustained development builds organizational bench strength over time.
A first-time C-suite executive should look for coaching that adapts to the specific demands of their new role as it unfolds. N2Growth pairs new leaders with a coach who works alongside them through the transition, building the relationships, credibility, and cultural fluency that determine long-term success. We also work directly with the organization to align expectations early, helping establish real momentum from the start.
N2Growth’s executive coaching engagements combine the Big Five, Five Lens, and Reflector 360 assessments with a structured coaching cadence and ongoing stakeholder alignment. We begin with the assessments to diagnose behavioral patterns and development priorities, then move into coaching that starts weekly and shifts to bi-weekly as progress builds. Regular stakeholder check-ins keep that progress tied to measurable behavior change and connected to real business outcomes.
Executive assessments provide actionable, data-driven insights into a leader’s capabilities, potential, and alignment with organizational goals. They inform smarter decisions in hiring, succession planning, and leadership development. N2Growth blends behavioral science with strategic analysis to accelerate both individual and team performance.
A board evaluation involves assessing the board as a whole, gathering individualized feedback from each director, and closing with a report of practical recommendations. N2Growth tailors the evaluation criteria to each board’s specific composition, governance structure, and priorities, then delivers a coaching-style debrief so each director gets a personal action plan.
A board evaluation gives leadership an objective, evidence-based view of how the board actually performs, which internal self-assessment alone cannot provide. N2Growth tailors each evaluation to the board’s specific needs and governance context, and benchmarks results against boards globally. Listed organizations are increasingly required to run these evaluations under governance codes, and beyond compliance, evaluations surface strategic blind spots and link board development to organizational performance.
An outside firm brings a level of candor internal reviews rarely reach, since directors speak more openly with an independent evaluator than with one another. N2Growth presents findings as objective analysis, so the emphasis stays on development. This outside vantage point also surfaces opportunities for growth that can be harder to see from inside the boardroom.
A top team effectiveness engagement unfolds in two phases, beginning with individual assessments and moving into six sequential modules covering conflict management, feedback, trust, problem solving, coaching skills, and resilience. N2Growth delivers the program through ICF-certified coaches, with sessions available on-site or remotely. We built the model to strengthen team dynamics during transitions such as new formations or leadership change.

Candidates
You are hearing from N2Growth because a search partner reviewed your background and saw a potential fit with a role we are currently working to fill for a client. Reaching out does not mean you are applying, but it opens a conversation to see whether the opportunity and your goals align. We partner with organizations across every major industry to find the right leader for each mandate, and this is the first step in exploring whether that fit exists for you.
You can submit your resume and background directly through N2Growth’s candidate submission page, which adds your profile to our leadership database for search partners to reference. From there, our team reviews your experience against active and upcoming search mandates, and reaches out directly if a specific opportunity aligns with your background. We conduct retained searches for board-level and C-suite roles across every major industry, and submitting your information starts that ongoing relationship rather than applying to one role.
You enter N2Growth’s executive search process by being sourced directly for a role, then move into interviews with our search partners covering the role, background, and compensation alignment. If you advance, you’ll meet the client directly and may complete a finalist assessment. If you aren’t selected, your profile stays active for future searches.
You will meet directly with the hiring organization once your candidacy advances past N2Growth’s initial interviews. Early conversations happen entirely within N2Growth, so you’re fully prepared before any client conversation begins. From there, the client leads the remaining stages of the process alongside our continued support.
Yes, if you’re selected as a finalist, you may be asked to complete an executive assessment as part of the client’s selection process. N2Growth’s coaching team runs this evaluation independently from the search team so the results stay unbiased. The assessment gives a fuller picture of your leadership style and fit, supporting a well-informed final decision alongside your interviews and background checks.
Your executive resume should quantify the results delivered in each role, showing what you have personally accomplished instead of listing responsibilities. Dates stay accurate and consistent across roles, with employment gaps and current status addressed directly rather than left ambiguous. Keywords aligned to your target function and industry help the resume surface in a search. The resume runs approximately two to three pages, stays clean and professional in formatting, and goes out as a PDF instead of a Word document so nothing shifts on submission.
N2Growth does not contact your current employer, and we only share information about you with the client we’re working with on the specific role you’re being considered for. Your background and interest stay confidential throughout the process. This protects you regardless of outcome.
N2Growth keeps some searches confidential to protect our clients’ business stability and give their leadership team full control over the timing and announcement of a transition. This approach also protects any incumbent executive and gives candidates a fair, low-pressure way to explore interest before any names are exchanged. We calibrate the level of discretion to each client’s specific situation and preferences.
Yes, N2Growth keeps your information on file for future opportunities, even when you are not selected for the search you originally engaged with us on. Your profile stays active in our candidate network, and our search partners consider it as new mandates emerge that align with your background.
